( which gives him a bit of extra time to settle in, too. everything aches and hurts and jason's careful sitting down, careful to get comfortable and waits for noctis while slouched back on his side of the booth. there's a cup of water in front of him, but he hasn't bothered ordering actual food yet.
instead he just. sifts through the internet with his implant, purses lips as he reads through a few news articles. )
[ Noctis isn't early this time. And amazingly he isn't late either, arriving exactly twenty-five minutes later looking far better than he had last time they were here. The dark circles are still a present feature, sure, but the cast is gone and so is some of that emptiness in his expression.
He slides into that booth without even so much as a greeting, slumping back almost immediately with a quiet sigh. It feels apropos. ]
( his face is absolutely covered in cuts, scrapes, and bruises--but it's covered under layers of concealer, evident only by the powdery layer over his skin and the swelling under an eye, over the side of his face. colorwise, jason looks fine. )
[ The cakey face texture is noted, and Noctis is honestly less surprised by wounds -- he'd seen plenty on him before -- than the fact that he'd actually used that much makeup to try to hide them. . ]
You can just say Prompto, I know he's blond. [ smartass ]
He's whining about it but he'll get over it. He's dealt with way, way worse.
( jason isn't bothered by them. wouldn't be bothered showing them off--every scar he has is another story, every bruise has a reason behind it, even if it's stupid. he doesn't mind them. but there are people in this city who have proven they've followed him around before, and he has no intention of being out in public when he's obviously worse for wear. this, at least, keeps those to a minimum. )
[ Noctis doesn't wear the scars to match his wounds. His magic has done a good job of making sure of that over the years, so much so that the only visible scar currently on his body is what's left over now from Connor's bullet to his arm. Covering that up would feel wrong too, but he's not about to judge. ]
I guess... we've all been shot plenty of times. I've set him on fire, but those were accidents. He shouldn't run in when I'm attacking; he knows better and I've told him before.
Can't imagine that's what you're here to talk about, though.
( set him on fire, that's funny. enough that jason'd be laughing about it, except. they're all a little beat up right now, it's not quite appropriate. whatever. )
This is a check up call.
( an apology for punching noctis when he probably didn't deserve it. not that jason would ever say as much. he doesn't apologize, ever. )
[ A check up call. In person, when it could've been done remotely, and here at the Chinese place they've frequented more than once before. It... irritates him, fixing him with a probing stare for a moment or two. ]
... yeah? If it is one, I'm not the one who's shown he'd need it more. You wanna' change your answer or should I start asking questions about how you're doing?
You asked, I answered. ( it's not incorrect; he did want to check up on noctis. see how he was. considering how little a broken arm values to him, in person seemed to be the better way to gauge how he was doing. but. )
'm fine. There's a lotta shit we still gotta figure out--like where the hell those assholes carted people off to, but. We'll have to heal up a bit before that.

Yeah, in more ways than one. [ ... ] How-- nah, forget it.
With everybody working together I think we've got a good shot. I'll do my part anyway.
