I want to eat what I like and I'm unhealthy. I want to eat something healthy and you make me look like the bad guy who wants better food at a hospital. I wasn't even complaining that time.
It sounded a little like complaining. In the end, you can eat whatever you want, but it’s not going to change my mind when it comes to how picky you seem to be.
You’d turn your nose up at all of the dishes served, where I work.
Yes. A very high-end establishment, with a focus on French cuisine and healthy eating. [He'd bet Noctis would complain about that, too.] It's called Armand's; I play piano there in the evenings.
[Right. Different worlds, unexpected explanations required.]
‘French’ describes anything from France, a country in my world. And this one, too, obviously. The piano must be a sign of status, though. I don’t think there are many left in the city, especially any in particularly good condition.
A piano's a status symbol? [ Well... that's honestly not the weirdest thing he's ever heard, but it's up there. He hadn't seen many around Lucis outside of Insomnia; they're cumbersome to begin with and in a world like this that's so heavily reliant on comfort and technology, that's not a trade most people would probably be willing to make. ]
Getting paid to play it kind of sounds fun, at least. Or not too hard if you're good...
Are you gonna' ask me to help you play sometimes? My arm's probably not gonna' like that. [ lol ]
So seems to be the case in this world. [Though it wasn't an affordable instrument back home, either, it certainly wasn't ever so prevalently associated with the hideously rich. But rarity always ups the price point of an item; pianos have apparently skyrocketed since 2038.]
Do you play music? [-he asks, just to clarify. Because it's an open-ended way of asking.] But no, what I had in mind was a waiter. Apparently we have an opening.
[ A pause. ] Yeah, thanks, Markus. ... You should probably be getting back to Connor soon, right? I know you said you guys talked but I figured you'd wanna' stick close.
[But if Noctis is talented enough to be a one-armed waiter, all the power to him.]
I should, but don't hesitate to contact me if you need anything. [There's a nurse call button, of course, but Markus means it in terms of company. Or someone who can fetch more jello for him more expediently than it would take for room service to reach his room.
With that, he deigns to stand, fighting back a wince.]

[ LOOK AT ME, IN THIS HOSPITAL BED ]

[Don't throw around terms like choice with Markus, he knows what you're doing.]
But it's also the responsibility of those who care about you to suggest healthier eating habits.
no subject
Suggest away. I just ate fish; fish is healthy.

Did you?

...You don't like Parmesan?
[YOU DON'T LIKE CHEESE, TOO]
no subject
Why would I want that on a perfectly good fish?

...I'm sorry that the hospital isn't exactly a five-star dining experience, but that's all they had to choose from.

You work at a restaurant?

Yes. A very high-end establishment, with a focus on French cuisine and healthy eating. [He'd bet Noctis would complain about that, too.] It's called Armand's; I play piano there in the evenings.

Healthy... Geeze, why does a place like that get to have a piano? Does that have something to do with "French"?

[A beat.]
You haven’t found a job yet, have you?

I guess I can play a little but I haven't in a long time. I got forced into a few lessons. [ But....... ]
You want me to be a waiter.
no subject
[He’s just joking with you.]
Well, the opportunity is there. And you’ll have to find your own source of income in this world eventually — your stipend will only go so far.
no subject
I'm not saying I'm not gonna' work. Obviously I'm used to working hard... and I've even worked in a restaurant before. Just didn't expect it is all.
... I'll think about it.

Then let me know what you decide. I can put a good word in.

I'll let you rest for now.
